Is it already the end of 2015?
January, February, March, … December!
Haydn Davies, Country Manager, reflects on the year that was:
It certainly doesn’t feel like 12 months have gone by since I wrote my end of 2014 review! However, here we are. 2015 is just about out the door and 2016 is on the way in.
The highlights of the year have been many and it’s good to stop for a moment and acknowledge at least a few of them.
Moving into the cloud
We were excited to announce the release of not one but two game changers!
Firm Central – the only cloud-based practice management software that integrates with legal research and precedents, and other essential law firm tools. It is so good it was voted #1 for Practice Management Solutions in the Cloud in a readership survey of the US National Law Journal.
The second revolutionary product is Know How – a new workflow solution delivering a task oriented step by step guide through legal matters. The first subject area in what will ultimately become a complete series covering all practice areas is Civil Litigation workflow and precedents.
Most of our customers are well acquainted with Westlaw NZ, our legal research platform, and we’ve been delighted to work in partnership with them on significant usability improvements across a range of areas – many of which were instigated by their feedback. Other Westlaw NZ updates include the beginning of an incremental rollout of true “point in time” or “time travel” functionality for legislation – something we’ve been working toward for a long time. The first of these is happening now and there will be more through the New Year. We promise to keep you informed!
A to Z of New Zealand Law
Another highlight has been the growth of A to Z of New Zealand Law. This began as a bold and audacious plan to build an encyclopedia of law for the 21st century. It’s a thrill to have reached a 25 topic milestone and to know from feedback how well it is used and regarded. That momentum will only get stronger through 2016.
2015 has been a big year for ProView too – our specialist eReader tailored to the needs of researchers. While most of our book titles are also published to ProView, we have also progressively released more than 30 ProView eReference titles, including all of our legal commentary works (including McGechan on Procedure, Adams on Criminal Law, and many more of your favourite legal works.
Book Club and other estore enhancements
Other significant debuts of 2015 have been the Book Club, (It’s great to see how many of you are picking up on the offers tailored especially for you.), and the increased contextual information we are able to provide in our estore about our products: book extracts, links to reviews, author interviews and associated articles. See Native Land Court Vol 2 as an example.
Special mention must be made of the Safeguard National Health and Safety Conference and New Zealand Workplace Health & Safety Awards event held in May. This year we had a record attendance, and even had to turn people away who arrived at the Conference venue without prior bookings. While we’re sorry for that we’re delighted that the Conference and Awards and their importance, is making an impact.
One more event deserves marking too. That was the first Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association Conference to be held in New Zealand, an event we were proud to co-sponsor with the Ministry of Justice. Four hundred judicial officers from 57 jurisdictions met in Wellington for six days of discussion leavened with sightseeing.
As I said in my 2014 review “Your business is our business”. We thank you for your continued loyalty.
